Last summer we took the kids paddleboarding for the first time here in Colorado and we learned a few things along the way.

Paddleboarding can be a fun and enjoyable activity for people of all ages and skill levels. If you are a beginner paddleboarder, here are a few tips to help you get started:
- Start with a stable board: As a beginner, it is important to start with a stable board that is easy to balance on. Wide, inflatable boards are a good choice for beginners because they are more stable and easier to balance on than narrower, hard boards.
- Wear a personal flotation device (PFD): It is important to wear a PFD (life jacket) when paddleboarding, especially if you are a beginner. PFDs provide flotation and can help you stay safe in the water.
- Use a paddle with the right length: The length of your paddle should be based on your height and the width of your board. A paddle that is too short or too long can be difficult to use and may cause fatigue.
- Practice on calm water: It is easier to learn how to paddleboard on calm water, such as a lake or a slow-moving river. Avoid choppy water or strong currents until you feel more comfortable on your board.
- Take a lesson: Consider taking a lesson from a certified instructor to learn the proper techniques and safety considerations for paddleboarding.
- Stay hydrated: Paddleboarding can be physically demanding, especially in hot weather. Make sure to bring plenty of water and stay hydrated to avoid fatigue and heat stroke.
I hope these tips are helpful as you get started with paddleboarding. Have fun and be safe!
