Visiting Santa at the Colorado Model Railway Museum

This outing was a bit of a trek for us as it was about an hour’s drive from Longmont, but sometimes you just got to get out with the kids and really go on an adventure.

Lately, we have been enjoying a lot of awesome miniature model videos on youtube, so we thought it would be fun to explore an awesome miniature train museum! And the Colorado Model Train Museum in Greeley, CO is beyond awesome. We stepped in that door and were generally left in awe with an amazing Christmas train setup complete with a train with a Dinsey theme with such adorable detail. Each train car showcased a different era of Disney movies. If you have a soft spot for Christmas villages like I do, you would stick and stare at this exhibit admiring all the details such as the miniature gumdrop trees, peppermint paths, and so much more. It really stole my adoring heart.

Of course, being December, our main highlight was a visit to Santa! The fact that Santa’s backdrop for pictures is a giant train was the coolest. The kids enjoyed their I-Spy Activity to check things off their list and of course Santa was on there.

There are plenty of fun things to do at the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley, CO. Visitors can explore the many model train exhibits and watch the trains running through miniature towns and landscapes. The museum also offers hands-on activities, such as building your own model train or painting a wooden train whistle. Additionally, you can take a tour of the museum’s restoration shop to see how model trains are repaired and restored, or attend a workshop or demonstration to learn more about model railroading. The museum also hosts special events, such as holiday train displays and model train swap meets. And don’t forget to visit the museum store to find unique gifts and model train merchandise.

The kids spent a lot of time playing in the actual full train car which was fun.

One video they made shows how they put together a Harry Potter Train Village. Complete with the snow hill of Hogwarts and of course the Hogwarts Express!

The buttons set up around the museum bring each exhibit to life in fun ways. Lights, sounds, the trains, and even a little smokey building with a fire engine.

Here is a fun video reel I made on IG of our outing there.

They had the lights dimmed for a festive Christmas lights vibe which was fun.
